Biography:
His first lessons of art Royak has received from Yu.M.Pen, later from M.Chagall. He has studied at the workshop of the Vitebsk High Public School of Arts (1919), and at the workshop of K.Malevich (1920-1922) in the Institute of Practical Art.
The Artist has moved to Petrograd upon invitation from K.Malevich (1922). From 1923 he has worked as a graduate student in the Formal Theoretic Department of GINKhUK (the State Institute of Artistic Culture).
He was a member of the UNOVIS group.
After GINKhUK was closed (1927), Royak has moved to Moscow and began working in architectural design, which he continued for many years. He has taken part in a competition for Textile House project (under the leadership of El Lissitzky). From 1934 the artist has worked in architectural workshop of the Vesnin brothers, where he continued working after World War II. He has also continued painting.
From 1921 Royak participated in exhibitions including the UNOVIS Group Exhibition, Vitebsk (1921); Exhibition of Artists All Moving, Petrograd (1923). His works were displayed at a personal show in Germany (1991).
