Biography:

Kustodiev has studied in Astrakhan (1896-1903) under Vlasov, and at the High School of Arts of the Academy of Arts, St Petersburg (1896-1903) under Savinsky, Repin and Stelletsky.

He visited France and Spain on a grant from the Academy of Arts in 1904.

From 1904, the artist has participated in exhibitions including NOKh (New Society of Artists), World of Art, Jack of Diamonds, SRKh (Union of Russian Artists), Community of Artists.

Was a member of SRKh from 1907, the World of Art group from 1910, and the AKhR (Association of Artists of the Revolution) from 1923.

The artist has produced illustrations for satirical magazines "Zhupel" (Bugbear) and "Adskaya Pochta" (Infernal Post) in 1905-1907.

Kustodiev visited Italy, France, Germany and Switzerland (1907-1917).

is works were exhibited abroad and in USSR, including Petrograd (1920), Leningrad (1928, 1959), Moscow (1929, 1947, 1952, 1968), Kiev (1960), Astrakhan (1978).
