The word "design" has been forbidden in the USSR until 1987. But still design was born, lived and developed. The ideas of the first Russian designers (El Lissitzky, Alexander Rodchenko, Vladimir Tatlin, the Stenberg brothers) have greatly influenced world culture of the XX century. The VKhUTEMAS has been the largest school of Avant-garde design, one of the two cradles of the designer profession. Valentin Rostkov, Boris Hevzorov and Yuri Dolmatovsky, anonymous groups of engireers-constructors of railroad car building and aircraft factories have created wonderful prototypes of transport design. LOMO, Svetlana Mirzoyan, the Vaks school, Lazarev's experimental course, Alexander Zakharov, Vitaly Lagutenko, the VNIITE projects. In the 1950s-60s there were packaging, interiors, shop-windows, exhibitions, transportation, company logos, toys, stationary - we see design everywhere. Later, there were school of Alexander Ermolaev and Mikhail Labazov, live and  environments raising the future classics of Russian designers.

The exposition will also present publications about Russian design, published at different times in the journal "Proektor". One may see at the exhibition all the journal issues for the three years of its existence, beginning with its first, "zero" issue published in 2007.

In addition, the exposition included remarkable examples of Soviet infographics and object design from the personal collection of the chief editor of the journal, Mitya Kharshak.
